Denison Descendants: Membership in the Denison Society is for all descendants of William Denison, father of Daniel, Edward and George. We currently have 930 memberships( descendants) encompassing 1,170 individuals spread world wide. Members help support our mission, help us keep up the Family Homestead and enjoy one another.
Those that are not Denison Descendants, but would like to help support our mission, may join as “Friends of the Denison Homestead.” Look at Homestead tab.
When you join the Denison Society, as a descendant member, you must fill out the Denison Society Application Form. Denison Society Application for Descendants
Step One:Fill out the application provided on-line, giving us all the data required by the application OR give us what you know and let us see what we can do to help you. We would want you to supply copies of as many proofs as possible, such as birth, death and marriage certificates, bible records, census records, and even letters or first hand accounts from your family. Pictures would be wonderful.
Do not be intimidated by our application form. Becoming a member is much easier than you think. If your parent, grandparent, great-grandparent, or sibling is/was a member of the Denison Society, filling out the application should take only a couple of minutes.
I have a relative who was a member of the Denison Society, how much information is needed on the application?
If you have a relative that is already a member of the Denison Society, you need only to provide genealogy information linking you to the relative that is already a member. For example if a great-grandparentwas a member of Denison Society, then you only need to list information about yourself, your parent, and your grandparent that connects you to the great-grandparent that is a member. An aunt or an uncle with membership might be your connection. For some it might be as easy as listing a parent’s genealogical information, if the parent is already a member of the Society.
How do I apply for membership if I know I am a Denison, but do not have any known genealogical connection such as a relative who is already a member?
Applicants without a known genealogical connection will need to spend more time on their research. The first step for potential members is to identify if the Denison connection is through the mother or the father’s lineage. Then fill out the application provided online, going back as many generations as possible. Submit the application along with the appropriate fee. Our genealogist will review the information provided and make her recommendation for membership.
What if I cannot find a connection through information available to me?
We do have a few resources on hand that help us know whether or not someone fits our Denison line. Lots of “Dennisons” do fit. Many names have been changed by town and county clerks, unerringly. Some are connected and others not. What we want to leave with you, for now, is that we are a resource willing to be of service. We are not professional genealogists so we won’t promise miracles, but we do promise to help within our limits.
What happens if your genealogist cannot find a connection and my membership application is not approved?
There have only been a handful of applications that a connection could not be determined. That does not necessarily mean that a connection does not exist, it may just be that the information has not been found yet. Your application will remain on file should new information become available.
